OPERATION SPECIFICATION CIRCUMFERENTIAL STRAPPING MACHINE

The project requires one to three 1 1/4” wide steel band to be applied in pre-selected positions around the circumference of mill size coils of steel.

The project will consist of a strapping station to automatically apply a circumferential band vertically on a coil.

STRAPPING MACHINE DESIGN, CIRCUMFERENTIAL STRAPPER

The circumferential strapping machine will be a pass into the coil type with strapping head mounted on the top. 

All functions of the strapping machine will be powered by heavy duty pneumatic and electrical power devices.

Operation controls of the machine will be by a dedicated programmable logic controller.

Automation Control will be by Allen Bradley programmable logic controller (other brands available on request) for single or multiple automatic strap application and machine functions with operator interface and control device mounted in a cabinet.  Free standing operator station with manual controls.

SEQUENCE OF OPERATION/CYCLE TIME, CIRCUMFERENTIAL STRAPPER

Seconds

-Coil is transported into the strapping station by customers system, ie v conveyor (Support stand by customer).

-Operator or system controls signals to start strap cycle.

-The strapping machine head indexes out to the coil and to the specific location that the strap needs to be applied.

-Strapping feeds around the track until it re-enters the strapping head.

-The strapping head takes up and tensions and seals the strap around the.            

-The strapping head seals and cuts the strap.

-The strapping head retracts.  

-The coil is now ready for transport to the next station or to be taken away via over head crane.

-Sequence 3 through 8 are repeated.

-Minimum Cycle Time per one (1) strap smallest coil.....32 sec, largest coil.....28 sec

-Circumferential strap per Cycle (after coil is in position @ 28 - 35 seconds.  Coil transport time is excluded.

-The strap cycle rate proposed is estimated.  Actual cycle rate will vary depending on conditions

ITIPACK MODEL PDAT-2000 POWERED, STRAP DISPENSER DESIGN

-Itipack strap dispenser and accumulator available for 2000 lbs. Jumbo coils.

-Strapping is pre-accumulated in a cascade design accumulation tower. 

-The accumulation tower ensures that the minimum of back tension is transmitted to the strapping head during the feeding cycle.

-The tower also accumulates the surplus strap during the tension cycle. 

-Accumulation of the surplus strapping from tensioning occurs before the refilling of the accumulator from the coil to replace the strap that was applied to the product.

-The dispenser has an electric motor for controlled uncoiling of the strap.

-Strapping is loaded in the eye horizontal position and is secured with an expanding mandrel.

-One (1) Model VS-32 Seal-less strapping head

-One (1) pneumatic cylinder (head tilt) 'A' Series 6" bore x 40" stroke x 2" rod. MFGR: 'Parker".

-One (1) 3/4 H.P. D.C. Motor (dispenser).

The Itipack VS 32

The VS 32 is a high efficiency pneumatic strapping head. It is manufactured in the Schwelm region of Germany under German, European, and North American safety standards.

The VS 32 is the ideal strapping head for all medium to heavy weight materials. Particularly for the steel and metal industries.

The VS 32 has seal joint efficiency of 95% of the strap braking load.
